About

Hi, I'm Jocelyn

I'm a SEND educator specialising in Maths, with many years experience working with young people with dyslexia, dyscalculia, Maths anxiety, ADHD, ASC ( Autism Spectrum Condition) and Executive Function challenges. I am dedicated to helping learners build confidence, wellbeing, and genuine engagement with education.

My career began in marketing, where I worked in campaign management and as a brand manager before retraining at the Helen Arkell Centre and with Connections in Mind. This mix of business and education experience now underpins my innovative approach to teaching: making maths practical, relevant, and connected to the real world.

I have designed numeracy programmes for ages 7–16 including support for GCSE and Functional Skills Maths for post-16 learners. One of my initiatives was the introduction of a “real world maths” programme, where reluctant learners explored business metrics such turnover, margin and profit by analysing online businesses such as Etsy shops. For many, this entrepreneurial lens transforms maths from an abstract subject into a tool for their future ambitions.

I also draw on nature-based and outdoor learning to help pupils improve focus, emotional regulation, and self-belief — especially those who don’t thrive in traditional classrooms.

Now working as an independent consultant & private tutor I partner with schools, organisations and parents on an interim or project basis to:

  • Support young learners and those at risk of disengagement

  • Design and implement tailored maths and executive function programmes

  • Create learning environments that foster academic progress and wellbeing

  • Introduce practical, real-world approaches to maths, from business skills to outdoor learning
